PSA: Sunshine on a Cloudy Day
Little did you know, that Temptations song that goes "I've got sunshine, on a cloudy day..." has a second meaning, and it relates to your skincare and sun protection on cloudy days. Well, at least that's what we got from it.
Too often do we hear that sunscreen and SPF protection are only for sunny days, but in fact, the skin can be just as prone to the sun and damage from UVA/UVB rays on cloudy days as it is on clear sunny days.
UV Index
The UV Index is a tool to help us understand the strength of the sun on a given day, whether it's cloudy or sunny. Check out the below handy chart, which we put together to help make sense of it all.
It's great to use the UV Index as a general guide, but remember, the best defense against the sun's harmful rays is consistent use of sunscreen on a daily basis - year-round!
Sunshine on Cloudy Days?
Ok, so how can you get burnt on a cloudy day? What if the clouds provide coverage so that the UV Index is 1?
Don't assume you're covered. Even with a UV Index of 1, 60 minutes outside can cause a sunburn and you may not even notice it until it's too late.
Cloudy days are great for those who enjoy less sun and heat, want the perfect lighting for their next Instagram shot, or just want a break from from beautiful sunny weather, but remember, clouds can be deceiving.
For daily sun protection, even on those cloudy days, we recommend our Weightless Barrier Moisturizer with SPF 25 for the face, or our Face & Body Sunscreen Lotion with SPF 30.
